Careers Fair

As an organisation WISP aims to inspire, support and promote women in STEM in our local area – and the Young Women into STEM Careers Fair is a key way that we achieve all three of these aims. It looks to encourage young people into science, technology, engineering and maths by showcasing the fabulous opportunities available in our local area. During the evening, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with a range of STEM related organisations. They will also have the opportunity to attend a series of short talks and workshops.

It’s fantastic to have support from local companies and organisations that has allowed us to put on this event annually since 2016, and illustrates how supportive the Plymouth community is when it comes to promoting STEM careers to young women.

2017 Dartmoor Zoo

In 2017 WISP partnered with Dartmoor Zoological Park to move Young Women into STEM to its new location, and what a fantastic venue it is!

As well as an opportunity to speak to the exhibitors, attendees also enjoyed a talk on career pathways from CSW group, after dark tours of the zoo, and a Q&A panel featuring Imogen Napper, a PhD student at Plymouth University, Emma Herbert, a Civil Engineer with Arcadis, and Megan Love, a Mechanical Fitter for Babcock at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

2016 Devonport High School for Girls

For our inaugural careers fair in 2016 WISP partnered with Devonport High School for Girls to launch Young Women into STEM.

The event featured workshops for both young women and their parents (separately) and a Q&A with local young women in STEM who shared their experiences and got questions written on their t-shirts!
