We are pleased to announce that the website for 400 Women, our flagship project for the next 2 years, is now live and ready for women in STEM to sign up. in collaboration with Mayflower 400,
400 Women is a collaboration between WISP, Mayflower 400 the National Marine Aquarium and other local sponsors (watch this space!), and aims to celebrate the life and work of 400 women working in science, technology, engineering and maths in and around Plymouth, and in doing so to inspire the next generation to follow in their footsteps.
The project will be centred around online profiles of 400 women who work in science, technology, engineering and maths related roles in or around Plymouth or who have a strong connection to Plymouth (e.g. they live here and work elsewhere). This website that forms the basis of the project has already been designed and built by the WISP team, in partnership with Mayflower 400.
By showing real people – with real lives, challenges, and experiences outside of STEM – we hope that WISP and Mayflower 400 can break down highly gendered stereotypes around what a STEM career is, illustrate the links between STEM and the Arts (STEAM), and dismantle perceived barriers, therefore moving towards a more inclusive and tolerant society.
